Some of the display fireworks were exclusive to the Pine Island Show; and Matlacha Park was the only place where they could be seen.

Waterball: A favorite with 4th of July crowds
This was the second year that the waterball fight was put on
by the Pine Island Volunteer Fire Dept., at Matlacha, and it was the high point of the day.
Winners on the Bokeelia team were Marty Slater, Albert May, and Olin Thomas Jr., Mr. Thomas was knocked unconscious when he

recieved the full force of one of the water hoses with 300 lbs of pressure on the side of his head.But he recovered Shortly,
and the battle continued to the delight of the spectators. the object is to force the barrel to the opposite pole.
The proceeds of the day go to help the Volunteer Fire Dept


The trick of the ladder drill is to get the water from a tank into the barrel through the pipe in the least amount of time. Pine Island fire Dept. won this one, by doing it in the shortest length of time.
