Lee County to Close Final Public Drop-off Site

Fort Myers, FL, Dec.3, 2024 – Lee County will close its last Hurricane Milton public drop-off site at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec.8. This drop-off site is located at 5031 Pine Island Road.

The county opened four self-haul sites in unincorporated areas following Hurricane Milton to help residents who did not want to wait for the county’s contracted debris hauler to arrive in their areas. As of Monday, there have been 2,718 resident visits to the sites since opening. Sites have closed as demand has diminished.

Matlacha and Pine Island residents who would like to use this remaining site are encouraged to do so now. Lee County would like to remind the public that dropping off materials outside of operational hours is considered illegal dumping. After closure, the public drop-off site will remain under surveillance to prevent unlawful activity.

Lee County’s contracted hauler is still collecting debris in areas impacted by Hurricane Milton. Residents are asked to continue to separate their debris piles to expediate collection.
