Mel’s art always exhibited her spirituality and sense of humor in many forms including acrylic, watercolors, painted furniture, silk-screen clothing and much more. Her art was filled with whimsical, cheerful and bright tropical colors that she loved sharing with her friends.

Many Island clubs and organizations were touch by her talent and community kindness when she would donate her art in order to raise funds for the various causes.

She was a self-taught artist who did many community works of art. She was the creator of the Pine Island Flag. She painted the side of the Pine Island Matlacha Fire Department tower located at Pine Island Center.

Some old -timers will remember back in the '70s when Mel's dad, nicknamed "Rocco" owned and operated an Italian restaurant with the same name in Bokeelia. It was a popular gathering spot with authentic cuisine and a larger-than-life chef.

She will be missed by many.
