Lee Commissioners Approves Pursuing Acquisition of Pine Island Parcels

Fort Myers, FL, Sept. 16, 2025 – The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a two-tiered acquisition priority matrix for potential Conservation 20/20 properties, clearly identifying those properties with greatest environmental importance and evaluation score.

Fort Myers, FL, June 17, 2025 – The Lee Board of County Commissioners continued its commitment to repairing to the transportation network, including pedestrian facilities, damaged by Hurricane Ian, voting to approve two repair contracts.

Tree Restoration Project at Matlacha Park

May 8, 2025 —Lee County celebrates tree restoration project at Matlacha Park thanks to U.S. Forest Service grant Fort Myers. 

Lee County Parks & Recreation has completed a vital tree replacement project at Matlacha Park, adjacent to the Matlacha Community Center, 4577 Pine Island Road. The work was made possible through grant funding from the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program. 

Two Lanes in a Few Months

(Update:4-4-25) It appears that the Little Pine Is. Bridge currently has two lanes open. We don't, at present, have information as to whether this is a temporary or permanent situation.

Florida Dept. of Transportation says that Phase one of the rebuilding of the Little Pine Island Bridge is expected to be completed within the next three months, at which point, Phase II will begin. Little Pine Island bridge engineering

Repairing the Shoulder on Pine Is. Road

Pine Island-Matlacha motorists reminded of work on shoulder this week.

Repairs necessary due to Hurricane Milton; flaggers will be on site.

Fort Myers, FL, Nov. 4, 2024 – Lee County would like to remind Matlacha-Pine Island residents that the Department of Transportation will be fixing the shoulder on Pine Island Road between Matlacha Boulevard West and Shoreview Drive.
