There is a water outage from about the Center north to and including Bokeelia in the afternoon at least up to 5:30 pm. There is some indication it may have been accident related. GPIWA issued a boil water notice at 5:30pm for all of Bokeelia. Water pressure was restored at around 8pm.

MangoMania Not Being Held in 2020.

Jennifer Jennings, Director of the The Greater Pine Island Chamber handed in her resignation effective 6-2-20. Jennings was director for ten years and also chaired the event MangoMania.

MangoMania which would normally be scheduled for the end of July has not been promoted and will not be held for 2020, ostensibly due to the wuhan virus.

Benjamin Disraeli, a 19th century politician is generally credited with saying “there is the damn lie and then there is statistics.” Which means politicians can tell any lie simply by cherry-picking statistical numbers. . .and they do!

There was a rumor that off-island people, even other county residents, were "raiding" Pine Island's Winn-Dixie. It was suggested that this was a organized effort and not just an accident.
There is no way to tell if, or how much, was true. However, there is no doubt that it is true to some extent.

This IS a declared epidemic emergency situation. Winn-Dixie needs to begin a "no-hoard" policy: 1) One must show a Pine Island residency with name. 2) 1 bulk item or no bulk items. 3) No more the two regular size items of a particular category.

Update:
As of 1/2/2020 the GPIWA announced that the boil water notice has been lifted.
The water outage was from about 7:30pm, Tuesday the 30th to nearly 11pm when the main line was repaired. GPIWA also is issuing a 3-day boil water notice for areas Pine Island Center to Bokeelia.

I had the long awaited 7-11 opening marked on my calendar for Sept. 12, 2019. Although the opening started at 6 AM, I decided to go about 10:30 to avoid the early morning rush. As I pulled in coming from the back through Nicki Drive, the place was packed.

Pine Island 4th of July, 2019, Parade and events ---started at 10 AM, at Winn Dixie shopping plaza and traveled north on Stringfellow Road to the 4-way intersection, left on Pine Island Road to the Elks Lodge.

Mark your calendars for July 13th and 14th as the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce will host the 24th Annual MangoMania Tropical Fruit Festival. The event will be held at the German American Social Club, at 2101 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.
